“Oh…well…yeah I know that, but you never…you never let your emotions control you like this.” Mello walked over to Near’s bed without really thinking about it and sat down.

“I don’t want people to stare at me…and I know they will.” His voice was wavering slightly. Since it hardly ever happened, any chance to make fun of Near was taken by the rest of the class. In the class, he was the youngest and the smallest, and the fact that he still managed to outdo everyone always angered the other students.

“Well if they do…I’ll…I’ll beat them!” Mello snarled, pounding his fist into his palm. He wasn’t exactly sure why he’d snapped like that, especially considering the fact that he was still annoyed at the younger. Mello didn’t want the others to make fun of Near though. Only he got to do that. “By the way…” Mello mumbled. “You can use the bathroom whenever you need to for the rest of today…I won’t try and stop you.”

“What? Why?” Near asked, confused as to why Mello would try and defend him. They were rivals, after all. He hesitated for a moment, unsure how to respond to what Mello said next. “Alright…”

“I…I don’t know…they just…they should leave you alone…” He averted his eyes and stood up. “I’d better go.”

“You pick on me more than they do.” He mumbled, mostly to himself as Mello stood.
